2022 Provisional Results

The provisional results for the 2022 Abingdon Marathon are now available on our Results page.

Congratulations on completing the 2022 Abingdon Marathon. The Abingdon Marathon is a runbritain–licensed event and therefore your time is included in calculating your free runbritain handicap score. Many thousands of runners of all standards have now claimed their runbritain handicap score. As well as giving you a current score, between scratch and 36.0, your free personalised running biography page includes your current national ranking by age band and postcode, your position on the national ladder, your progress graph, your strongest distance, a head–to–head comparison with other runners and downloadable training schedules to improve your score next time you race. A Very Big Thank You To Everyone Once Again!

A very big Thank You once again for helping to make the 2022 Abingdon Marathon another great success to our marshals, all our support services, our helpers, the supporters around the course and, last but not least, the runners. The early rain did not dampen the spirits of the runners nor the marshals. The dire forecasts failed to materialise during the race andas the day wore on it brightened up to lift everyone’s spirits much to the relief of all concerned. The bad weather demons did, however, vent their anger after everyone was safely back at home!

We look forward to seeing you all again next year!

Entrants’ race packs will now be dispatched at the beginning of week commencing Monday, 10th October. Entrants should receive their race packs by the end of that week.

Please ensure you have your EA licence details to hand, if you are an affiliated club member to ensure you receive the affiliated discount. If you do not have those details to hand, please contact your club secretary to obtain your licence details. In addition, please remember to make sure you complete the online entry form appropriately to ensure you are entered for the relevant championship event(s).

2021 Race Cancellation Notice

It is with much sadness that the Abingdon Marathon Committee has once again been forced into making the difficult decision to cancel this year’s marathon due to take place on Sunday 24th October 2021. This is unfortunately due to the lack of entrants so far and being a purely volunteer run marathon with no financial backing, we are not able to finance the event. The entry fees collected so far will not cover our costs. We presume that this is a knock–on effect of the whole Covid–19 situation with the uncertainty of when lockdown and ongoing restrictions will be lifted plus the fact that October now seems to be full of marathons or virtual marathons.

As we have not yet had to pay substantial deposits or invoices, and despite the terms and conditions of the 2021 entry, the committee have agreed to give all entries received to date a refund this year (minus £5 to cover costs incurred so far). If we were to delay the decision to cancel to a later date, the costs that we are about to incur would mean we would be unable to offer any refund. There will be no deferrals. Those already entered will receive a follow–up email so that arrangements for a refund can be made. Please be patient as the refund process for all entrants will have to be done manually by the volunteer treasurer.

We are so sorry again to have to bring you this news. We very much hope that as the fantastic vaccination program continues in this country and confidence returns so that we can welcome you to an Abingdon Marathon in future. We wish you all the best with your continued running.

2021 Refunds & Deferrals Policy Notice

In the unfortunate cancellation of the event through circumstances beyond the control of the race organisers, the rules and terms of entry are accepted and understood that there will be no refund of entry fees or deferrals. It is also accepted that, if Covid regulation changes issued by the Government make it impossible to hold the race at short notice in the summer, no refunds or deferrals will be possible.

2020 Race Cancellation Notice

With the current uncertainty around the duration and scope of the measures being taken by the UK government in response to COVID–19, we have taken the difficult decision to cancel this year’s Abingdon Marathon.

All entries received to date will be offered the choice of deferring their entry to the 2021 Abingdon Marathon, or a refund (minus a £5.00 administrative fee) or a donation of their entry fee to this year’s chosen charity, Abingdon Emergency Foodbank. Currently, we are very aware of the number of people who are having to use a foodbank as a result of COVID–19.

Those who have entered for the 2020 race will have received or shortly will receive an email detailing the options available. If you entered and haven’t received anything by the end of the weekend, please first check your spam folder before contacting the Treasurer using the Contact Form ensuring the AM - Race Cancellation Enquiry option from the subject menu is selected.

The intention, assuming things have returned to normal, is that the 2021 race will go ahead next year. In the meantime, stay safe.

Coronavirus Notice

The organisers of the 2020 Abingdon Marathon are aware of the current concerns regarding Coronavirus (COVID–19) and will follow advice from Public Health England (PHE) nearer the date of the race.

In the unfortunate event that the race has to be cancelled due to PHE guidelines there will be no refunds or deferrals, in accordance with our conditions of entry.
