Please Note: The Special Event Order Notice has been issued by Oxfordshire County Council detailing the road closures and diversions that will be in place for the duration of the 2023 Abingdon Marathon is available to view here.
The course remains unchanged from that used in recent years. The 2023 race will again start and finish on the Tilsley Park athletics track as has been the case in recent years. Essentially the course will remain the same as that used for the 2022 race with the closing couple of miles following Wootton Road up to the roundabout at the junction of Dunmore Road then returning along Dunmore Road to Tilsley Park.
The initial two miles of the course along Dunmore Road and Twelve Acre Drive towards Radley will incorporate road closures as has been the case in recent years with the rest of the course being on roads that are open to the general public. The route passes through the town centre, heading out on a two lap route passing through the villages of Drayton, Milton, and Sutton Courtenay before returning back through the town and up to Tilsley Park finishing in front of the grandstand. Please refer to the map below for details.
The route provides lots of opportunities for supporters to see the athletes and offer their encouragement. Details of the best viewing points and a link to a downloadable map are provided in the answer to Q32 on the FAQ page. The course is flat and fast and should be ideal for achieving personal bests. The course is not suitable for unaccompanied wheelchair competitors.
Elsewhere on this website information is provided regarding places along the route where supporters and spectators might like to eat, drink, or enjoy themselves while supporting the event, or where you might like to stay overnight. All those businesses mentioned have supported this year’s event and made contributions to the prizes and goody bags, so please support those who have supported the marathon. On the Abingdon–on–Thames website information is provided about the town and places of interest in the town centre and on the route, so supporters can enjoy both the sights and the race, and keep the kids entertained if necessary. This map of the town will also be useful for visitors.
Please note: To be able to download this map you must be a registered member of MapMyRun.
